Circular Urban Farms Training
The Circular Urban Farm (CUF) Training program, an initiative aimed at promoting the transition to a circular and resource-efficient economy in North-West Europe.
About CUF Training
CUF Training is a project dedicated to empowering urban development stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills to embrace circular urban agriculture. Our program stands out for its approach, with online learning modules with hands-on training sessions conducted in four partner countries: Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and Germany. This combination ensures that participants receive a well-rounded education that encompasses both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
Through a diverse range of topics, participants will explore methods of food production tailored specifically for urban environments. From hydroponics to bioponics and aquaponics, organic waste management, and circular urban farm design/construction, our program covers a wide spectrum of sustainable agricultural practices.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experts in the field of urban agriculture, gaining insights and practical skills from professionals.
Objectives:
Our project aims to achieve several key objectives:
- Increase the circularity of urban farms linked to buildings,
- Develop soil-less circular urban farms, including rooftop farms and others,
- Provide trainings to participants, of 46 hours of online sessions and 24 hours of practical on-site training.
Project Duration:
The CUF Training project duration is from 22 Novembre 2023 to 30 June 2025.
=> The first training session of the program will be held from January to April 2025.
The CUF Training project comes from the GROOF project, which had as objectives to design rooftop greenhouses for local food production and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The goal of the project is to capitalize on the knowledge and experiences gained from the GROOF project to develop and implement training in circular urban agriculture. This effort led to the creation of the "Grow the City" training program as part of the CUF Training project.
Germany: EBF Greenhouse
In the EBF greenhouse located in Germany, the presence of photovoltaic panels is evident with a diverse array of plants.
Jardins perchés, in Tours
A structure designed for growing plants in a vertical arrangement. Plants are stacked in layers, with each level receiving water and nutrients from a central system.
Symbiose in Nantes
With rows of plants arranged in containers. The greenhouse provides a controlled environment for optimal plant growth.
